Petroleum Engineering deals with the exploration, drilling and production of petroleum. It also caters for technical as well as management aspects of petroleum as an upstream end of the energy sector. Upstream refers to the petroleum deposits buried deep beneath the earth's surface and its supply to the consumers as a river supplies to the ocean. The multidimensional topics covered under petroleum engineering are closely related to the earth sciences. These include economics, geology, geo chemistry, geo mechanics, geophysics, oil drilling, geopolitics, knowledge management, seismology, team building, team work, tectonics, thermodynamics, well logging, well completion, oil and gas production, reservoir development, and pipelining.
